GUIDE TO GRADING
Grading is the process whereby a comic book’s condition or state of preservation is assessed. The better the condition , the more desirable and valuable the book. The following are grading categories into which comics are placed once its condition has been established:

MINT (M)
Absolutely perfect condition. A theoretical ideal that is almost never used.
NEARMINT (NM)
100% of the mint value. Nearly perfect with only minor defects allowed e.g. tiny corner creases ; only subtle binding or printing defects allowed. Has virtually no wear and tear. Flat , firm and glossy. Paper still supple and white.
VERY FINE NEARMINT (VFNM)
90% of the mint value.
VERY FINE (VF)
75% of mint value. Excelent copy. Sharp and clean. Minimal surface wear beginning to show , especially at the corners and along the spine. Paper quality still supple , but may be off-white.
FINE VERY FINE (FNVF)
65% of mint value.
FINE (FN)
50% of mint value. Still excellent above average copy. Shows minor wear and accumulation of small defects. Wear and tear visible , but no major creases or other serious defects. Paper usually yellowish to off-white.
VERY GOOD / FINE (VGFN)
40% of mint value.
VERY GOOD (VG)
30% of mint value. Average used comic book. Shows moderate wear e.g. small folds , creases and tears , minor soiling. Spine may be loose but not detached. Ink or pencil marks allowed , but not excessively. Common binding and printing defects allowed. Paper may be brown , but not brittle. General eye appeal still makes it a collectable copy.
GOOD / VERY GOOD (GVG)
25% of mint value.
GOOD (G)
15% of mint value. Pages and covers in tact , although small pieces may be missing. Books in this grade are usually creased, abraded and soiled. Paper quality is low , but not brittle. A large accumulation of defects present , but it should still be complete.
FAIR (FR)
5% of mint value. Soiled and ragged. Multiple folds , creases and tears. Spine may be split ; cover detached. Pages and pieces may be missing if it does not interfere with reading the complete story. Generally any defects allowed , as long as the story pages and front cover are in tact.
POOR (PR)
1% of mint value. Excessively damaged. Story pages and covers may be absent. Generally not collectable.
